To rescue even more fabric, circular economy company Next Chance is launching its new collection of hair accessories made in Canada : from satin scrunchies to fabric bows that transform a simple hairstyle into a true signature detail.
Rescuing Even More Fabric
This new collection of hair accessories was a natural next step for the company. When Next Chance launched in 2020, with reusable gift wrapping as its first and only product line, customers were already asking for hair accessories.
“During Christmas markets, half of our customers would buy our bows to decorate their Christmas trees, while the other half would wear them in their hair. So when we developed this new collection, we naturally adapted the product, including working on a longer clip for a better hold in the hair,” explains Maude Girard, co-founder of Next Chance.
In general, Next Chance’s products are made from surplus textiles sourced from designers and manufacturers, such as end-of-roll fabrics and production offcuts. However, the hair accessories collection takes this approach even further by giving a second life to smaller fabric scraps, allowing the company to rescue even more textiles.
This new collection also opens the door to exploring new materials, “such as softer, silkier fabrics like satin and silk,” Maude adds. For this collection, the founders prioritized smooth and soft textiles that help reduce friction on the hair.
Like all of the company’s new products, the scrunchies go through an important research and development phase to ensure quality. Several rounds of testing were conducted to find the perfect size for the scrunchie elastic: loose enough to wear around the wrist, but tight enough that two loops are all you need to tie your hair.
Showcasing Your Values, Right Down to Your Hair
Wearing a Next Chance accessory means choosing an accessory made from rescued fabrics rather than new materials, while supporting local craftsmanship. All products are cut, measured, sewn, and assembled in the company’s workshop in Longueuil.
An accessory can become a small reminder that we can make better choices without compromising on style or product quality. “It allows people to express their personality through their choice of colours and materials,” says Gabrielle Huppé, co-founder of Next Chance.
